Yesterday I did my American duty and I went and voted early. It was soooo cool!!!! They had this computer booth thingy and all I had to do was click on Republican on the first screen and I was done! I did change one vote for the local tax assessor to the Dem candidate because I know the guy. That was a hard decision to make, hopefully the Lord will forgive me.

Wow, I continue to be amazed by the ignorance of those who are not informed about much of anything.

Response: His mother was a scientist, in particular, a biologist and agnostic, not atheist. She did place him in a catholic school, so she was not against religion, but she put him there for the better educational opportunities that it provided. Agnostics don't concern themselves with religion but don't dispel any religious idea either. Atheists believe that there is no such thing as a god or religion. I hope any candidate family lineage has no bearing on your political decisions.

To vote for a person because they solely believe in a god is silly as well. That is like saying that just because McCain was in the military makes him qualified to be in charge of the military. That is crap. Who said he was a good officer in the military? And, a fellow POW with McCain, Phillip Butler, PhD, in Viet Nam had this to say about McCain: I furthermore believe that having been a POW is no special qualification for being President of the United States. The two jobs are not the same, and POW experience is not, in my opinion, something I would look for in a presidential candidate. I’m disappointed to see John represent himself politically in ways that are not accurate. He is not a moderate or maverick Republican. On some issues he is a maverick. But his voting record is far to the right. I fear for his nominations to our Supreme Court, and the consequent continuing loss of individual freedoms, especially regarding moral and religious issues. John is not a religious person, but he has taken every opportunity to ally himself with some really obnoxious and crazy fundamentalist minister. I was also disappointed to see him cozy up to Bush because I know he dislikes that man. He disingenuously and famously put his arm around the guy, even after Bush had intensely disrespected him with lies and slander. So on these and many other instances, I don’t see that John is the “straight talk express” he markets himself to be.

He goes on to say that John McCain is not qualified to be president and he will not be voting for me. This is from someone who knows McCain, probably better than most of us can ever really know him. But, being the dolts that you are, you will vote for a man just because he is a right wing wacko, and not because he is best qualified. Truly sad.

Response: America's greatest generation was rife with prejudice. As with any war, we end up hating an entire group of people just because of their nationality, discounting any valid and amazing contributions that persons of that heritage we are at war with, but live here in the United States, have made. We have had a glaring example here in the United States when "McCarthyism" took hold after WWII and witch hunts for so-called communists were executed. It was then decided that just because a person attended an event featuring communism, or anyone that had communist relatives, or had a last name that indicated ties to communism, was not illegal, nor was it acceptable to assume so.

Response: I have never said that having christian roots is a bad thing. On the contrary, being a christian is a good thing. I am not one, but I am all for those who believe in their own religion. Mr. Obama has been acknowledged as being an outstanding christian. What I have a problem with are folks, like yourself, who believe that just because someone does not worship your god like you do is wrong. It doesn't make them wrong, it just makes them different. And, being different is not all bad.

Response: I could care less if a person has christian moral values as president. If he/she does, great, if he/she doesn't, great. For me, we have had a president in office who is supposed to have great moral values, perhaps he does, I do not know what goes on behind closed doors, and I shouldn't. But, I do know, christian principles or not, he has done a horrible job of running this country. And, that is the only thing I have ever wanted, someone in office who is not only morally good, but someone who knows what he/she is doing. The current president has proven time and time again that he really has no clue about what is good for this country. And, fortunately, it appears the majority of the country has finally seen through this facade. A good thing.

Response: Yes, I do believe he had something to do with what is happening. But, he is not the only one. Deregulation has proven to be the main ingredient to what is happening today. And, that has always been the mainstay of the Republican party. But, yes, I believe that Mr. Obama has played a role in what we are going through today. Again, both parties are responsible.
